St. Peter School is a PK-8 school serving students in the greater Danbury area. Graduates move on from St. Peter School with a solid academic and social foundation necessary for the academic rigors of high school, college and beyond.
St. Peter School is a safe, nurturing place; it is a faith-filled environment in which Catholic values are infused in all subject areas. Students receive religious instruction and sacramental preparation. They participate regularly in mass. Our school integrates academic learning with enrichment activities and character development to help students develop spiritually, intellectually, socially and physically.
Our school is mission driven and follows the Bridgeport Diocesan approved curriculum. There is also a focus on Personalized Learning at St. Peter School. In the words of Superintendent, Dr Cheeseman:
“Why do we need to focus on personalized learning for students? Because we believe that all children are created in the image and likeness of God and each has been given unique gifts and talents. Instructional practices that promote personalized learning recognize those gifts and address student’s specific needs. They are part of an educational model that fulfills our Catholic mission. Academic excellence is not something we do separate and apart from our Catholic Identity. It is something we work towards because of our Catholic Identity.. A portion of each day is devoted to a “station-rotation” model in which students will utilize an instructional approach that incorporates an online suite of programs that presents material and practice in a way that is adaptive and responsive to student ability, skill, and performance."
Accreditation
St. Peter School is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and approved by the State of Connecticut.
NEASC provides accreditation services for more than 2,000 public and private institutions in the six state region - Pre-K through university.
The accreditation for St. Peter School is under The Commission on Independent Schools, one of four Commissions of NEASC, which accredits a wide range of private non-public schools in the six states of New England. Most recently, our school completed its Self Study in the fall of 2018, which was followed up by a three day visit from a committee of principals and teachers from other private schools. St. Peter School was accredited for 10 years.
In order to keep the accreditation valid, the school is required to submit a two and five year report to demonstrate progress toward improvement, as well as annual reports.
